Port of Clarkston Completes Latest Fiber-to-the-Home High-Speed Internet Infrastructure Project

(Clarkston, WA) The Port of Clarkston has announced the completion of its third fiber-to-the-home high-speed internet infrastructure project within Asotin County.

The service area, south of Poplar Street, north of Libby Street and between 13th and 17th Street, covers approximately 800 households can now be connected at speeds up to 100 megabits per second, depending upon the plan selected by the residents.

Summit Utility Contractors, LLC, of Lewiston, was awarded the construction contract and reached physical completion of the project on January 21, 2025.

Key to achieving this connectivity is the partnership of Internet Service Providers including Airbridge Broadband, First Step Internet, Inland Cellular, Intermax Networks, and Rodeo Networks. These ISPs lease fiber from the Port and have been “lighting it up” with upload and download speeds selected by their customers in the service area, beginning 1/22/25.

According to the Port of Clarkston, the project was supported by a grant in the amount of $2,444,381 through the Washington State Public Works Board, as a pass-through from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Grants funds came from the America Rescue Plan Act, Capital Projects Fund. Asotin County contributed $100,000 under the American Rescue Plan Act State and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund.

The Port provided an additional match for the grant of $252,602. In a Friday press release, the Port commended the man community partners and the Asotin County Broadband Action Team for their active roles and advocacy to make projects like this a success.

The Port has been engaged in deployment of dark fiber in Asotin County since 2013 and relies on public-private partnership with ISPs for the final step of service to customers. The Port of Clarkston has now installed 26 miles of broadband infrastructure backbone, connected 22 anchor institutions, and brought fiber to a total of 2,342 residents and businesses in Asotin County.
