CLARKSTON – A Clarkston woman was transported to the hospital late Saturday night after being involved in a storage unit fire.
According to a social media post, the Asotin County Fire District #1 and Lewiston Firefighters were dispatched to a large commercial storage unit on fire in the 2200 block of Appleside Blvd in the Clarkston Heights just before midnight Saturday night.
The first arriving fire officer reported they could see flames and smoke emanating from two storage units within the large facility. Crews attacked the fire and kept most of the damage to just two units, but smoke had traveled into three other storage units.
Firefighters, along with the storage unit manager, cut locks on several units checking for fire extension and smoke.

The woman taken to the hospital said she was moving stuff around in her storage unit and started a propane heater. As she was moving items, she knocked the heater over which ignited surrounding items. She was transported to the hospital by Asotin County Medics, with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
“Storage units can be a challenge because you never know what is behind that door.” Asotin County Fire Chief Noel Hardin said. “One unit might be furniture and the next a vehicle with lots of fuel.”
No other injuries were reported in this fire. 18 Firefighters from Asotin County Fire and Lewiston Fire were on scene for about an hour and a half.
