LEWISTON – A 3-0 sweep of Multnomah University on Saturday night made it three straight wins for LC State Volleyball to close out the month of September. The Warrior offense hit at a clip of .235 on the night to take the sets by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-18. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar tallied 17 kills for a career-high in a three-set match.
The win moves LC State to 6-11 overall and 5-7 in Cascade Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first set was tight before Multnomah pulled ahead 12-7 to force a Warrior timeout. LC State regrouped out of the pause and a kill by Missy Mortensen sparked a six-point run to put the Warriors in front. Anna Merrill added two kills in the stretch before another swing by Mortensen capped the rally at 17-15.
Gianna Anderson started a 5-1 span that closed out the set. Forgach Aguilar tallied the final three LC State kills of the frame to make it 25-20.
The two teams battled back-and-forth once more in the second to a 7-7 tie before Mortensen sparked another run, this time of five. Forgach Aguilar and Merrill aided the stretch that put the Warriors in front 12-7. A late run pulled the Lions within three, 21-18, but a kill by Merrill, ace by Esther Kailiponi and block by Karissa Lindner and Hallie Seaman ended the set 25-19.
Three Multnomah errors gave LC State an early lead in the third frame, and kills by Merrill and Anderson made it 5-4. A kill by setter Sofie Langer kickstarted a five-point run with three kills by Forgach Aguilar and a block by Forgach Aguilar and Mortensen to push the margin to 13-8. The pair went back-to-back with kills for a 15-9 advantage.
Two kills by Anderson moved the set along and more Lion errors had the score at 23-17. Two final tallies by Forgach Aguilar ended the set and match 25-18.
Forgach Aguilar led the match with 17 kills on a .324 attack percentage and Anderson added eight kills. Abbey Neff dealt 14 assists to go with Langer’s 12, and Kenzie Dean led the defense with 15 digs. The total moves her to 1,521 in her career and closer to the fourth-place all-time mark of 1,558.
Maya Blake led Multnomah with 11 kills, Eliana Dean dished out 16 assists and Lauren Porter collected a match-high 16 digs.
