KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lewis-Clark State Women’s Basketball found itself in single digits in the second NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches Top 25 Rating on Wednesday. The Warriors checked in at No. 8 after a split against No. 5 Carroll (Mont.) and No. 17 Providence (Mont.).
LC State leads a trio of Cascade Conference schools in the top 25, with Eastern Oregon at No. 18 and Southern Oregon at No. 21. The Warriors lead the CCC in steals per game (12.8).
The Warrior women enter the first weekend of conference action with a 4-1 overall record with the lone loss of the season coming to Carroll in Helena. The contest was close throughout, and LC State bounced back to take down Providence the next day. Callie Stevens scored 26 points against the Saints and another 15 against the Argos to earn Cascade Conference Player of the Week honors, joining Sitara Byrd who did so earlier this season.
Maddie Holm ranks fourth in the CCC in rebounding (9.0) with Byrd right behind her in fifth (8.8). Byrd is second in the conference in field goal percentage (.593) with Lindsey Wilson (.571), Ellie Sander (.552) and Darian Herring (.542) also in the top 10. Sander is fourth in steals per game (2.8) and Stevens is sixth (2.8). Herring ranks second in the Cascade in blocks per game (1.8).
The Warriors host Northwest (Wash.) and Evergreen State (Wash.) this week to kick off Cascade Conference action. LC State will take on Northwest on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the P1FCU Activity Center.
