January 16, 2024 (Moscow, Idaho) — The City of Moscow and the Moscow Arts Commission announce the opening of Honest Portrayal, an exhibition on view at the Third Street Gallery starting on January 18, 2024.
In this exhibition, more than 50 artists from the Palouse region explore the possibilities of portraiture. From marble statues of emperors to paintings of pets, portraits have a long and rich history. Far from being a mechanical replication, a portrait always proclaims the importance of the subject as well as recording elements of its appearance. Honest Portrayal at the Third Street Gallery presents portraits with a wide range of fidelity to the visible world. While open to artworks that achieve a likeness of form, the exhibition is also inclusive of artworks that convey a true likeness of spirit.
