(Bonner County, ID) – An arrest warrant was served today following a fatal crash that occurred on November 22, 2024, near milepost 490 on US 95 in Bonner County.
In collaboration with the Bonner County Prosecutor’s Office, Idaho State Police (ISP) investigators secured an arrest warrant for Rick Gross, a 61-year-old male from Moyie Springs, Idaho. Investigators believe he drove the Dodge Ram pickup that attempted to pass multiple vehicles and struck a Ford Edge. The crash killed 5-year-old passenger Amelia Carrollo, whom the Bonner County Coroner’s Office identified.
Rick Gross was located, arrested, and booked into the Bonner County Jail for three counts of Aggravated Reckless driving, Vehicular Manslaughter, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was located through the combined efforts of the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, Bonner County Sheriff’s Office, ISP investigators, and the US Marshals Task Force, which includes investigators from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office and the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
“A family is forever impacted by Mr. Gross’ alleged actions. Hopefully, his arrest and prosecution will provide some closure for the victim’s family,” said United States Marshal Brent Bunn. “The District of Idaho is proud to assist our state and local partners with the arrest of Mr. Gross and helping to keep our communities safe.”
ISP continues investigating this case and seeks additional information or video footage that may provide insight into the events leading up to the crash. UPDATE: Idaho State Police Seek Public Assistance in Fatal Crash Investigation

BONNER COUNTY, Idaho – The Idaho State Police (ISP) continues to investigate a fatal crash that occurred on Friday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 8:35 a.m. The collision occurred near milepost 490 (Elmira) on US 95, close to Cindy Lane in Bonner County.
As part of the ongoing investigation, ISP is seeking the public’s assistance to gather additional evidence that could help determine the events leading up to the crash. Investigators are asking for vehicle dash camera, business surveillance, Ring doorbell video, or any other captured video footage of traffic traveling south on US 95 from milepost 505 in Boundary County (Bonners Ferry) to the crash site near milepost 479 in Bonner County. The requested timeframe is from 6:45 a.m. to 8:35 a.m.
Additionally, ISP is encouraging motorists traveling on US 95 during this time who may have observed the vehicles involved in the crash but have yet to speak with investigators to come forward with any information.
“This investigation is critical to understanding what led to this tragic collision, and we believe someone may have additional information or footage that can help piece together the events leading up to the crash,” said Trooper Travis Bucher, ISP District 1. “Even small details that seem insignificant could provide vital clues to help bring closure to the families affected by this devastating loss.”

Fatal crash US95 near milepost 490; Bonner County, Idaho

BONNER COUNTY, Idaho – Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash that occurred at 8:35 a.m. on November 22nd, 2024, on US95 near milepost 490, near Elmira, Idaho.
At approximately 8:35 a.m., a 61-year-old male from Moyie Springs, Idaho, was traveling southbound on US95 in a blue 2011 Dodge Ram pickup. The driver of the Dodge Ram moved into the northbound lane and attempted to pass multiple southbound vehicles, colliding head-on with a black 2008 Ford Edge traveling northbound, in the northbound lane. The Ford Edge was driven by a 33-year-old female from Otis Orchards, Washington.
The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup was the sole occupant and was transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance. The driver of the Ford Edge, her 33-year-old female passenger, from Deer Park, Washington, and a juvenile were also transported to an area hospital via ground ambulance. There was a 4th passenger in the Ford Edge, a juvenile, that succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Next of kin has been notified.
The highway was blocked intermittently for approximately three hours with alternating traffic.
