Beacons Down Warriors to Open Road Weekend

EUGENE, Ore. – Juliauna Forgach Aguilar led all players in the match with 17 kills, but the LC State Volleyball team fell to Bushnell University in four sets on Friday. The Warriors edged the Beacons in service aces and digs in the contest that finished with scores of 25-18, 25-15, 21-25, 25-16.

The Warriors are now 7-13 on the season and 6-9 in Cascade Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A kill and ace by Gianna Anderson had the set tied 3-3 early on. A swing by Anna Merrill kept the score even at 6-6. Bushnell pulled ahead 19-9 to take control of the frame. Hallie Seaman and Kierstyn York added kills to cut the difference to 21-15, and Anderson added a tally before the Beacons closed out the set 25-18.

Back-to-back kills by Forgach Aguilar and an ace by Katie Rainville put the Warriors front 3-2 in the second set. Kills by Seamon and Anderson kept LC within two at 9-7 before Bushell surged ahead 15-8. Forgach Aguilar and Missy Mortensen cut the difference to 16-10. The Beacons took the set 25-15.

Kills by Forgach Aguilar and Mortensen got the offense going for the Warriors in the third. Natany Felix Guimares dealt an ace, Anderson and Rainville notched kills and Sofie Langer added an ace to give the Warriors an 8-7 lead and force a Bushnell timeout. Kenzie Dean tallied an ace and Mortensen and Merrill teamed up on a block to cap a four-point run to give LC a 14-11 advantage, and Forgach Aguilar added a kill at 15-12. The Beacons answered the tie the set and start a back-and-forth battle.

Anderson and Merrill put together two straight kills to give the Warriors a 20-18 edge, and another swing by Merrill made it 21-18. Two more tallies by Merrill and one by Forgach Aguilar pushed the score to set-point, 24-19, and Forgach Aguilar ended the set 25-21 with a hard-hit kill.

A kill by Forgach Aguilar and back-to-back aces by Esther Kailiponi had the fourth frame knotted 4-4. Bushnell mounted a rally to pull ahead 11-5 before charging on to a 25-16 final.

Forgach Aguilar led the match with 17 kills and Anderson added 12. Kailiponi dished out 16 assists to go with Neff’s 15. Felix Guimaraes led the defense with 16 digs and Dean collected 13 to move into fourth-place all-time with 1,566 in her career. Five digs in the next match with tie her for third all-time.
