KAMIAH, Idaho: February 22, 2024– From March 4 through March 15, the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will be accepting applications for entry-level permanent wildland firefighter and dispatcher positions throughout the Forests. These GS-3/4 positions allow for paid training and travel, competitive pay (including overtime and hazard pay), and federal employee benefits, such as medical and retirement. Additionally, these positions enable employees to gain experience and knowledge necessary for a target GS-5 position in fire management.
This unique opportunity allows anyone with no previous experience to begin a career as a permanent employee with the Forest Service. In the past, firefighter career paths started with a temporary-seasonal position as an entry-level wildland firefighter or dispatcher. For anyone who may have missed the original hiring timeline for entry-level fire positions or did not hear back about a job offer, this hiring event is another chance to apply for a wildland firefighter or dispatcher position on the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest.
The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests will host a two-day in-person hiring event at the Supervisor’s Office in Kamiah on March 13 and March 14 between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to allow interested applicants to meet with recruitment officers and experienced wildland firefighters and learn about working on a fire crew; how to apply to these positions, and any other questions that may arise! While it is not necessary to attend an in-person event to apply, it is highly encouraged to show up so that you can have any application process-related questions answered in real-time. For those who may not be able to make it to the Supervisor’s Office but need assistance or have questions about the process, please contact MJ Miller and Jim Wimer at 208-935-6134, or email them respectively at [email protected] and [email protected].
