Idaho State Board of Education Opens Grant Window for Higher Education Research Proposals

September 25, 2024

The Idaho State Board of Education is now accepting research proposals from Idaho’s higher education institutions for its Idaho Global Entrepreneurial Mission (IGEM) Grant Program.

Administered by the Board’s Higher Education Research Council (HERC), past IGEM grants have funded projects in areas such as cybersecurity, disaster response, and a Food and Dairy Innovation Center.

The Idaho Legislature appropriates $2 million annually for IGEM grants. Selected proposals must align with the Board’s statewide higher education research strategic plan and leverage the talents and expertise of Idaho’s research universities and the private sector. Last year, nine IGEM projects were funded by HERC.

Pre-Proposals are due by October 28, 2024. Submitters will be notified not later than December 13, 2024 whether their proposal will advance to the Full Proposal stage, which will be due in late February 2025. Selection of successful applications will occur no later than May 1, 2025.

A link to the Request for Proposal (RFP) and more information can be found here: https://boardofed.idaho.gov/board-facts/board-committees/higher-education-research-council-herc/higher-education-research-council-programs/

Formed in 1998, Higher Education Research Council is responsible for implementing and administering the State Board of Education’s high education research policy and the grant programs created by it. The programs are designed to stimulate competitive research at Idaho’s institutions.

A list of current HERC projects and recent reports is posted on the State Board of Education’s website: https://boardofed.idaho.gov/board-facts/board-committees/higher-education-research-council-herc/current-herc-projects/
