(Lewiston, ID) — Independent School District No. 1 is inviting parents, students, and community members to attend upcoming open houses to review proposed changes to the district’s elementary school boundaries. The meetings will provide an opportunity for stakeholders to learn about potential adjustments to boundaries and share feedback that will help guide the decision-making process.
The first open house will take place on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Lewiston Community Center, located at 1424 Main St. The second will be held on
Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the DeAtley Center located at 3125 Cecil Andrus Way from 6:00-7:30 pm.
The open houses will include maps and visual aids to help attendees understand the proposed changes. District Administration and members of the Boundary Workgroup will be available during the open house to answer questions and discuss specific aspects of the proposed boundary revisions.
The District has seen population shifts and changes in enrollment that have necessitated a review of elementary school boundaries to ensure balanced class sizes and equitable access to school facilities across the District.
“Revising school boundaries is never an easy process, but it’s an important one,” said Director of Student Services, Dr. Kimberly Eimers. “We want to make sure that families have a voice in shaping this decision. These open houses are an essential way for us to share information and listen to the community’s feedback.”
The school district’s Board of Directors is scheduled to review community input at their regularly scheduled work session on January 27, 2025. The Board will take action on the proposed boundary revisions at their board meeting on February 10, 2025.
