L-C Valley Habitat for Humanity Announces Applications Open for Clarkston Program

CLARKSTON — L-C Valley Habitat for Humanity (LCV HFH) has received a second round of funding for the Clarkston Affordable Home Repair (CAHR) Program.

LCV HFH is working in partnership with the City of Clarkston and the Washington State Department of Commerce to offer the CAHR Program, which helps families address critical repairs needed in their homes. This funding program can help Clarkston homeowners within the city limits make home improvements to meet safety requirements and accessibility needs, or to bring them to current municipal codes.

“The second round of funding that allows our Clarkston Affordable Home Repair (CAHR) Program will enable 13 qualified residents, who need these critical repairs, to continue safely living in their homes,” said Deb Snyder, Executive Director of the local Habitat. “We are very excited to announce the re-opening of the application process for this program.”

Mayor Monika Lawrence also shared her thoughts on the program:

“The City of Clarkston is always looking for ways to help our individual residents and this Habitat program will offer funding to residents who need assistance keeping their homes safe. We are happy to partner with our local Habitat organization and the Washington State Department of Commerce to bring this opportunity to qualified people of all ages who need these critical repairs for their homes.”

In addition to building new homes in the valley, LCV HFH helps by making affordable home repairs inside the city of Clarkston.

“By offering home repairs for no or low cost, the program will help preserve and ensure safe, decent, and affordable housing,” Snyder said. “We appreciate the City of Clarkston and the Washington State Department of Commerce to open these opportunities for helping Clarkston families who are living on a fixed income and in need of some assistance.”

The program is designed for critical home repairs such as roofing needs, plumbing issues, electrical hazards, and house structural issues in a home that is unsafe or otherwise in poor condition. The most important criterion for selection into the CAHR Program is that the homeowner resides in the home as their primary residence.

Interested homeowners can call 509-758-7396 or visit the LCV HFH website for a full list of program requirements and criteria.

ABOUT LCV HFH:

For three decades, the local Habitat organization has built 34 decent, affordable, energy efficient homes for families in Asotin and Nez Perce counties, giving hope to qualifying families in need by selling the homes with low or zero-interest mortgages. LCV HFH staff are nearly finished with the 35th home and will soon announce a home dedication.

If you would like more information on this topic or are interested in becoming a partner family or a Habitat volunteer, please contact Deb Snyder at (509) 758-7396, by email at [email protected], or by visiting our CAHR program website at https://l-cvalleyhabitat.org/cahr/

Our local affiliate first started in 1991 with a focus on building and renovating simple, decent, affordable housing for the residents of Nez Perce and Asotin Counties. To date, with the help of our valued community partners, generous contributions from donors, and countless hours of volunteer labor on home builds, we have been fortunate enough to construct 34 homes here in the LC Valley. We truly believe that our work is part of a greater community-wide effort to improve the place we all call home.

L-C Valley Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit, faith-based organization devoted to changing lives through the practice of “giving people a hand up, not a hand out.”
