NEW ORLEANS – Both LC State Cross Country teams earned USTFCCCA All-Academic Team status and had 11 individuals garner All-Academic Athlete honors, the USTFCCCA announced on Thursday.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, among other qualifiers.
“Great to see our athletes competing at a high level and performing at a high level,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “The most that a team can put on this list is seven athletes so for us to have six and five respectively says a lot about the level of commitment and how well rounded this group is. Could not be prouder.”
The Warrior women had six athletes earn the honor, led by senior Abigail Peightal. Junior Brooklyn Shell, sophomore Grace McCormick and freshmen Grace Dixon, Clara Stephens and Grace Tiegs all met the criteria.
On the men’s side, LC State had five representatives qualify for the award. Fifth-year senior Connor Turpin earned the accolade, along with junior Brycen Brown, sophomores Carter Gordon and Conner May, and freshman Kobe Wessels.
