LC State Women’s Tennis Battles in Doubleheader with Whitman

LEWISTON – The Lewis-Clark State Women’s Tennis team competed in a doubleheader with NCAA Division III opponent Whitman College at the LCSC Tennis Center on Friday.
The Warriors dropped the first match 6-1 and the second match 4-3. The two losses dropped the LC State season record to 1-4. Even with the two team losses on the day, there were some standout performances for the Warriors. Here is how the two matches went:
MATCH ONE: Whitman def. LC State 6-1
Lina Boylan earned the lone victory for the Warriors with a tough three-set win in No. 1 singles versus Jin Yu 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Marina Perez won the opening set of her No. 3 singles contest with Ilina Jha before losing 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. Heidi Moyo (No. 5 singles) and Maria Eduarda Santos da Silva (No. 6 singles) were both defeated in third-set modified tiebreakers.
Rayana Shah and Moyo battled hard in their No. 1 doubles match with Arianna Castellanos and Teleya Blunt to a tiebreaker before falling 7-6 (4).

1.     Arianna Castellanos/Teleya Blunt (WC) def. Heidi Moyo/Rayana Shah (LCSC) 7-6 (4)
2.     Jin Yu/Ilina Jha (WC) def. Carisa Liebenberg/Marina Perez (LCSC) 6-0
3.     Sascha Wells/Grace Carter (WC) def. Lina Boylan/Maria Silva (LCSC) 7-5
Singles
1.     Lina Boylan (LCSC) def. Jin Yu (WC) 3-6, 6-2, 6-4
2.     Teleya Blunt (WC) def. Rayana Shah (LCSC) 6-1, 6-4
3.     Ilina Jha (WC) def. Marina Perez (LCSC) 4-6, 7-5, 7-5
4.     Sascha Wells (WC) def. Carisa Liebenberg (LCSC) 6-4, 6-1
5.     Julia Longpre (WC) def. Heidi Moyo (LCSC) 7-5, 4-6, 10-7
6.     Grace Carter (WC) def. Maria Silva (LCSC) 6-4, 0-6, 10-8
MATCH TWO: Whitman def. LC State 4-3
The Warriors took home singles victories in Nos. 4-6 singles. Anne Mathema earned a No. 4 singles victory in straight sets over Grace Carter 6-3, 6-1. Molefe dropped only two games in a No. 5 victory over Piper Rylander. Larissa Couto defeated Kaylah Tan in No. 6 action.
In a battle that lasted over two hours, Gwyn Heim fell to Teleya Blunt in a third-set modified tiebreaker in a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 loss.
Naiara Montero and Mathema were victorious in No. 2 doubles over Jin Yu and Kaylah Tan 6-3. However, Whitman was able to win the other two matches to earn the doubles point.
