(Lewiston, ID) The Lewiston Police Department is partnering with the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety (OHS) and law enforcement agencies across Idaho, to make sure everyone stays safe on the roads during the busy Thanksgiving travel period. This Friday, November 22 through Saturday, November 30, Officers will join a statewide effort, issuing citations to those not wearing their seat belt and educating Idahoans on the importance of all drivers
and passengers buckling up. Whether driving across the state or just across town to celebrate the holiday, everyone should buckle up for every trip, every time.
The Thanksgiving holiday is the start of a special time of year for so many people. No matter how long or short your drive, it’s critical we all buckle up. We want everyone to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Please, make sure everyone is buckled up before you turn on the car – and that includes kids being in the correct car seats too.
Seat belt stats:
-According to OHS seat belt survey data, 86% of Idahoans are making the safe choice to wear their seat belt.
-Buckling up is the easiest thing you can do to protect yourself during a crash. It increases your odds of surviving by 50%.
-In 2023, 58% of the occupants in cars, pickups, SUVs, and vans killed in Idaho crashes were not wearing a seat belt.
