February 5, 2024 (MALDEN, Wash.) — The Pine Creek Community Restoration Long Term Recovery Organization (LTRO) and the Town of Malden will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly constructed municipal building, which contains the fire station, town clerk’s office (town hall), and post office. Grant funding from Washington State Department of Commerce and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was used to replace the original buildings that were lost three and a half years ago during the Babb Road Fire. The ceremony will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15th at 14 West Moreland Avenue, Malden, Washington. State and federal dignitaries will be present, as will many agency partners. The public is encouraged to attend.
Visitors to Malden can tour the new Malden Palouse-to-Cascades Trailhead. The Palouse to Cascades State Trail is part of the Great American Rail-Trail that traverses the country, from Washington D.C. to La Push, WA.
“I am proud of the work our community members, with the help of many outside agencies and individuals, have accomplished since the devastating wildfire of September 7, 2020. I hope folks will come and celebrate with us,” says Dan Harwood, Mayor of Malden. “I’d like to welcome everyone to the newest town in the state of Washington.”
Construction on a new community center, foodbank, and library will begin this spring.
