(Lewiston, ID) – On Tuesday, April 30, both Sacajawea and Jenifer Middle Schools received a six thousand dollar grant from The Idaho Lottery, as well as two 3D printers, materials and engineering kits. These supplies are going to be used by the 6th, 7th and 8th graders in the Gifted and Talented programs at each school.

“It is such a special thing,” said Cheyenne Gregg, Gifted and Talented teacher at Jenifer. “We are such a small town and community, so this is a huge deal for us and for our state”

Gregg also had the unique opportunity to team up with Sacajawea’s Gifted and Talented teacher Theresa Duchemin. Together, the two of them, along with their students, filled out the necessary paperwork to apply for the grant. “We just figured if we get it, awesome, and if not at least we still tried.” Gregg went on to say that it isn’t often that both schools get to collaborate on a project like this, and doing so made the whole experience even more impactful.

“Gifted and Talented is a very new program, so for us to be able to work together to make this program be the best it can be, it’s really exciting.” stated Gregg.

Tim Sperber, Sacajawea Middle School’s Principal is thrilled to bring this opportunity to the students of both schools.

“Our teachers are amazing, I have had the opportunity to work with both of them, and they are both amazing.” said Sperber. “They do the best for their kids every day, and this is just a part of it.  They are the ones who went the extra mile to get the grant, and it wasn’t easy. We are really proud of them and proud of everything that they do for our kids.“

The students of each school do not have any specific projects planned, but, keep an eye out for future projects to come.
