Warrior Track and Field Dominates CCC Weekly Awards

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Warriors of Lewis-Clark State Track and Field has a monster weekend at the Whitworth Invitational that resulted in 15 national qualifiers and numerous school records. After incredible performances throughout the weekend, LC State swept the track and field portion of the Cascade Conference Rize Laboratory Athlete of the Week awards. Geraldin Correa and Carter Gordon took home the honors on the track side, and Christian Bothwell and Jennah Carpenter won the votes on the field side.

GERALDIN CORREA – WOMEN’STRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Correa ran the fastest 800m race in the NAIA this season to sit at No. 1 in the NAIA rankings by nearly two seconds. The senior shattered the school record by almost a second with a time of 2:12.84. She dominated the 42-person field to finish second overall at the event.

This is Correa’s first weekly honor this season and second in her career.

CARTER GORDON – MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Gordon had a standout weekend with a pair of A standards. The junior ran a leg of the 4x800m relay team that lapped the competition and finished with a time of 7:47.11 for the second-best time in program history. He went on to dominate the solo 800m with the sixth-best time in the NAIA this season at 1:52.72. The A standard is the second-fastest by a Warrior in school history.

This is Gordon’s first weekly honor this season and second in his career.

JENNAH CARPENTER – WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Carpenter continued to improve her mark in the high jump with a season-best 1.70m mark. The A standard ranks fifth in the NAIA this season. Carpenter also made a career-best leap in the long jump of 5.42m which ranks second in the LC State records books.

This is Carpenter’s first weekly honor this season and second in her career.

CHRISTIAN BOTWELL – MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Bothwell had a record-setting weekend at the Whitworth Invitational in the heptathlon. The senior broke his own record in the seven-event multi with 4,793 points and ranks sixth in the NAIA this season. He had personal-bests in the 60m dash (7.48), high jump (1.86m) and 60m hurdles (8.86).

This is Bothwell’s first weekly honor of the season and fourth in his career.
