SPOKANE – Warrior Track and Field hit five national marks and had four school records fall at the Whitworth Peace Meet on Friday. Sydnie Zywina tallied half of the LC State records on the day with success in the triple jump and long jump.
“It’s kind of interesting to say we had another common performance day, yet we had uncommon results which is neat,” Head Coach Mike Collins said. “It was a great day in general with a lot of PRs and season-bests, and a number of new national and conference qualifiers. I think the highlight today was Sydnie in both the triple and long jump with great performances. Great to see Madigan (Kelly) in the hurdles and London (Kirk) performed well also.”
THE WOMEN
Zywina, who earned her first All-American honor in the indoor season, shattered her LC State record in the triple jump with the third-best mark in the NAIA this season. She placed second with a distance of 11.97m. She went on to set the Warrior record in the long jump (5.49m) where she placed third.
Madigan Kelly blew away her own school record in the 100m hurdles with the third-best time in the NAIA this season. She placed second overall with a time of 13.94. Jennah Carpenter ran a personal-best time of 15.09 which ranks fifth in Warrior history to finish fourth, and Sara Hathaway was sixth (15.38). Carpenter placed second in the high jump (1.62m).
Freshman Karissa Lindner showed her speed with the third-fastest 100m dash in school history. She placed third overall with a time of 12.41 and Macey Gunderson was 24th (13.92). Lindner went on to run the second-best 200m in program history (25.70) to place sixth. Kelly was seventh with the fourth-best LC State mark ever (25.79), Anika Grogan was eighth (25.96) and Gunderson was 22nd (28.04). Lindner also competed in the long jump where she finished 19th (4.18m).
The team of Emily Collins, Lindner, Kelly and Grogan ran the third-fastest 4x100m relay in program history. The group placed second overall with a time of 48.17. Collins placed second in the 400m (58.41) and Gunderson was 11th (1:04.15).
Haylee Appleford had three PRs in throwing events on the day. The freshman threw to the fifth-best mark by a Warrior bin the shot put (11.62m) to place ninth, was fourth in the discus (37.94m) and 20th in the hammer throw (34.01m). Grace Osborne was seventh in the discus (35.80m), 17th in the shot put (9.94m) and 15th in the hammer (36.41m).
Brooklyn Shell led LC State int he1,500m with a time of 4:47.14. She placed ninth with Aubree Williams in 10th (4:47.80). Grace Tiegs was 13th (4:49.68), Abigail Peightal was 39th (5:26.28) and Grace McCormick placed 46th (5:31.75). Geraldin Correa was 13th in the 800m (2:18.22) and Kristen Thomas was 45th (2:29.67). Madison Howe finished 18th in the 5,000m (21.47.55) and HaileyAnn Johnson was 19th (22:38.04).
Emberlynn Mack placed 10th in the pole vault (2.55m). Gianna Anderson placed 20th in the javelin in her collegiate debut with a throw of 31.05m.
THE MEN
London Kirk ran an A standard time in the 400m and won the event with a time of 47.81. Preston Cooper ran the second-best time ever by a Warrior to place fifth (49.96).
The 4x100m relay team of Jordan Castillo, Copper, Jedidiah Barnaby and Ike Hopper hit the B standard in the event. They won the race with a time of 41.38 which ranks second in the LC record book. Barnaby went on to set the LC State record in the 100m dash and finished second with a time of 10.79. Cooper placed fifth in the 200m (22.37) and Castillo was 11th (22.97).
Griffen Parsells ran the third-best 1,500m by a Warrior with a provisional-qualifying time of 3:53.37. The time ranks in the top 10 in the NAIA this season. Parsells placed sixth and Kobe Wessels was 10th with a PR time of 3:56.15.
Hopper was busy with runs in both hurdle events. He ran the second-fastest time ever by a Warrior to finish second with a time of 15.14. Hopper was seventh in the 400m hurdles (57.11).
Alexander Fry led a trio of Warriors in seventh place in the 10,000m with a personal-best time of 32:22.11. Connor Alexander was ninth with a PR of 32:53.34 and Brycen Kempton was 12th (32:58.28). Brycen Brown placed ninth in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:44.17) and Keith Uitdewilligen was 17th (10:03.28). Clay Shumaker ran a personal-best 5,000m and placed 18th (15:29.95), Jacob Adams was 29th (16:57.96) and Luke Sellmann was 30th (17:29.21).
Wessels led LC State in the 800m with a time of 1:55.61 to finish 12th. Conner May was 14th (1:55.95), Carter Gordon placed 15th (1:58.12), Cooper Carlson was 19th (1:58.39) and Tristin O’Brien ran a personal-best time of 2:02.99 to take 32nd. Carlson, Gordon, Wessels and Parsells teamed up to run a 4x400m relay and place third with a time of 3:24.27.
Sam Weller placed 17th in the shot put (13.06m) and 19th in the hammer throw with a PR of 41.37m. Christian Bothwell was 29th in the shot put (11.05m) and 18th in the javelin (38.44m). Tanner Beltz-Childs placed 25th in the hammer throw (37.24m).
Freshman James Bogdanowicz placed 24th in the 100m (11.80) and ninth in the pole vault (4.03m).
